Proscovia Alako’s blade was hot today as she lit up the opening day of the Waterfalls T20 League with a swashbuckling 80 off 57 balls that included 5 mighty sixes and 8 boundaries.

Alako’s batting kept Itanda Kayakers in the game even when she kept losing partners and the rate kept climbing towards 9 runs every over.

Sipi Trekkers batted first and put on a good total of 128 in their 20 overs with contributions from Kevin Awino (44), Janet Mbabazi (29) and Stephanie Nampiina (23) despite losing wickets very early on.

In response, Proscovia Alako (80) and Rwanda ladies Captain Diane Bimenyimana (17) put on a partnership of 45 for the opening stand. Alako was the star of the show as she kept the crowd well entertained. She ensured that she got the team over the line without having to leave the heavy lifting for the rest of the group. Itanda Kayakers wining the first game of the tournament by 7 wickets.

In the afternoon, Sipi Trekkers were more clinical especially in the field ensuring that they hold onto their opportunities and also dry up the runs. Phiona Khulume (3/13) was the star of the show with ball in hand as the Bujjagali Rafters were bundled out for just 82.

In the chase, Sipi Trekkers were never troubled with contributions throughout the whole team as they eased to a 7-wicket win over Bujjagali.

Stephanie Nampiina won the player of the match award for her all-round performance picking a wicket and scoring 21 runs off 12 balls.

It was an exciting opening day and action will continue tomorrow with the Itanda Kayakers taking on Bujjagali in the morning before meeting the Sipi Trekkers in the afternoon.
