The 15th edition of the prestigious Mbale Table Tennis open championship smashes off this Thursday, 2nd February 2023 at the Namakwekwe social center.

The Table Tennis fraternity in Uganda will head to Mbale city as the prestigious Mbale open smashes off this Thursday, 2nd February 2023 at the Namakwekwe social center.

The tournament organizers got a major boost with the acquisition of a key partner in Stanbic Bank.

The bank offered a Shs 2,000,000 to be offered in prize money.

Players from various clubs in East Africa will converge in Mbale city for the prestigious championship that makes 15 editions since inception.

Jude Mutete, the chief organizer also the head coach of hosts Mbale Tigers Table Tennis club expects at least 80 players from 12 teams plus.

The hosts will be joined by renown Table Tennis hubs as Mbogo school, Nakasero, Emurot (Lugogo) St Joseph boys Kitale and Kenyatta from Kenya, among others.

The competition will range from the U-12, U-18 to open clusters.

For starters, the Mbale open Table Tennis championship has been held since 2003.

Elite players from Uganda and Kenya are always part and parcel of this tournament.

Simon Juma Wamugoya won the open category in 2022.

This tourney is sanctioned by the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA).
