Overview:

Vastly experienced coach Frank “Video” Anyau is handling the Amus College girls’ team alongside Jovan Magino, Moses Ssekasana and Nimrod Kintu. Mityana based Royal Giant is being handled by Adam Masembe and Frank Mulindwa.

Tanzania is set to host the CECAFA Zone qualifiers for the 1st edition of the Africa Schools football championship.

Uganda will be represented by two schools; Amus College – Bukedea (girls) and Royal Giant High School (Boys) during the tournament that will take place in the humid coastal city of Dar-es-Salaam.

Both schools (Amus and Roya Giants) are currently undergoing intensive training in preparation for these games.

Sixteen schools from eight countries are already confirmed for this CECAFA Zone qualifying which will take place on February 17-19, 2023.

Hosts Tanzania will be represented by Fountain Gate Dodoma Secondary and Benjamin William Mkapa High School.

El Hilla Al Jadida and Al Jeel Algenina schools are the representatives from Sudan.

ECOFO Ruseno and ECOFO Gasanda are from Burundi. Djibouti will have CEM Baulous and CEM Baulous.

Awaro Secondary School and Geda Roble Secondary School are from Ethiopia; St. Josephine Bakhita Primary School and Libya 1 Primary School (South Sudan) whilst Kiramuruzi Modern Primary School and Ecole Secondaire Sumba are from Rwanda.

Hefty winners’ purse:

The winners in the boys and girls’ category are expected to win USD 100,000, while the runners-up will take USD75,000 and bronze medalists USD 50, 000.

The victors will represent CECAFA region at the maiden African Schools Football Championship is slated to take place April 7-9, 2023.
