Vipers picked their first ever Caf Champions League group stages point after drawing at home with Guinea’s AC Horoya on Saturday at Kitende.
The Ugandan champions came into the game on the back of a humiliating 5-0 defeat away to Raja Casablanca but looked improved.
Milton Karisa was guilty for missing twice when played through by Bright Anukani before the break while Olivier Osomba shot narrowly wide when set up by Yunus Sentamu late on.
The Venoms who finished with only ten-men after left back Isa Mubiru was sent off for a second bookable offence in a space of sixty seconds in the 78th minute.
Alfred Mudekereza who was a shadow himself in the defeat in Morocco made some good saves to deny the visitors who also hit the upright later in the second half.
With Raja Casablanca stunning Tanzania’s Simba SC in Dar es Salaam with a 3-0 defeat, the Moroccans move to six points with Horoya (4), Vipers (1) and Simba (0) in that order.
Action in the competition resumes over next weekend when Simba visit Vipers at Kitende while Raja Casablanca will play hosts to Horoya.
