After winning bronze at the 2023 CAF Pan Africa Schools Football Championship (CECAFA Zone), Amus College School Bukedea delegation safely returned home.

The first batch touched down on Monday evening at Entebbe International Airport led by the director Hon. Patrick Isiagi Opolot.

“We are glad to be home safely. It was team work that led us to the bronze medal. We had good preparations” Emily Nabuzaale, a team leader noted.

Amus College School Bukedea edged Rwanda’s Kiramuzi MS 1-0 in the third place play-off at the Azam sports complex, Chamazi in Dar-es-salaam city, Tanzania.

Shakira Logose netted the all-important goal in the second half of the closely contested duel.

Vastly experienced coach Frank “Video” Anyau was full of praise for the different people who helped the team achieve what they managed to.

“We want to thank the director of Amus College School. He is a father who has put in more effort. I also thank the players, fellow coaches, school administrators, FUFA, speaker of parliament and the media for the collective effort” Anyau revealed.

Calvin Opio, the Amus College School games teacher emphasizes that the school will continue with the academic and school programs.

Besides the bronze medals, the Ugandan school also won a cash prize of USD 50,000 (at least Ug.shs 190,000,000).

“We are humbled for the third place finish even though we needed first place. We are grateful to everybody who contributed immensely to the team’s development” Jovan Magino, an assistant coach remarked.

In the semi-finals, Amus College School had lost 2-0 to Ethiopians Awaro S.S.

Tanzania’s Fountain Gate Academy overcame Awaro S.S from Ethiopia 3-0.

In the boy’s event, Uganda’s Royal Giant High School beat Geda Royal S.S from Ethiopia 4-2 in post-match penalties after a goal-less draw in normal time.

Royal Giant High School and Fountain Gate (girls) will represent the CECAFA zone at the Africa U-15 finals in Morocco come April 2023.
