Stanbic Black Pirates and Impis were the last two teams to taste defeat in the 2023 Nile Special Rugby Premier League. On matchday six, Impis lost by 55-10 against Heathens; then the following weekend, Pirates fell to Kobs by 30-25. The two faced off in matchday eight’s tie at Kings Park, with the hosts bagging a 34-10 bonus point victory.

Black Pirates scored five tries through Conrad Wanyama, Alvin Rukundo, Sydney Gongodyo, Moses Zziwa, and Kamiza Jones. While Kamiza’s put the icing on the cake as Pirates returned to winning ways, Zziwa’s – a training ground tap-and-go finish from five metres away – caused wilder celebrations. Pius Mpoza touched down Impis’ lone try.

While this was Pirates’ first match since they dropped from the top of the table, Impis are now on a three-match winless streak.
