The last team to dominate local cricket was Tornado Bee but they never achieved the feat of winning five titles in a row. If it were not for the two years that were missed due to Covid-19, Aziz Damani could have easily had seven titles and counting.

A rule change last year that allowed only four national team players per side was meant to make the league more competitive or even make Aziz Damani less powerful but for a side that is used to winning, they found a way around that.

Aziz Damani won the title unbeaten and the only points dropped were in the game with Wanderers that was declared a no-result.

Aziz Damani won the Division 1 title without breaking much of a sweat with the Ceylon Lions finishing in second place.

It was the fifth title for Aziz Damani who will face a sterner test in 2023 as they look to defend their title.

The success for them also came from two of their sides in the local league. Aziz Damani Development gained promotion to the top flight after winning the Division 2 championship unbeaten as well.

The youngsters most of whom featured for the U-19 team at the World Cup put together a fine season to clinch the title. They easily dealt with Nyakasura and Patidar for them to finish top.

In the women’s league, Aziz Damani again reigned supreme winning their fourth title in a row.

The 4th title 40 over league was not smooth sailing with Wanderers and Olila coming close to picking up points against the defending champions. However, the experience in the group was good enough to earn them the title. Olila and Wanderers finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the Women’s Division 2, Jinja SSS denied Aziz Damani Development a clean sweep with the former finishing on top of the table and earning promotion to the top flight.

The return of Habib Mugalula was key in the turnaround of results for Jinja SSS as they won Division 2 unbeaten.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
