In February 2023, the passionate rally fanatics from across the divide thronged Mbarara city, dubbed the land of milk for the first round of the National Rally Championships (NRC).

The crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba smiled to the podium as winners in the competition tagged as the Mbarara Festival Rally.

Racing in their brand new Ford Fiesta R5, the crew emerged winners with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 15 seconds.

For this feat, the duo was recognized with a special plaque and cash prize in the Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards held at the Jude Colour solutions head offices in the heart of Kampala city.

They beat off stiff competition from Ronald Ssebuguzi and Mugambwa as well as Duncan “Kikankane” Mubiru and Bongole.

Navigator Katumba received the award as Yasin is away for a business trip in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

“It is humbling to be rewarded. I thank the organizers of these awards and all the sponsors. About our achievement in Mbarara, it was well deserved in our new machine. Being a season opener, we needed this victory to open the way for the rest of the events coming up.” Katumba remarked.

Football:

Uganda Hippos and UPDF creative midfielder Rogers Mugisha took the football gong.

Fresh from Egypt at the AFCON U-20 finals, Mugisha beat off Royal Giants’ teenager Patrick Katumba and KCCA goalkeeper Derrick Ochan.

Basketball:

In Basketball, Jannon Jaye Otto beat off stiff competition from fellow national team players Maria Najjuma and Brenda Ekone.

The trio were part of team Uganda that featured in the Africa zone V qualifiers at the MTN Indoor Arena that qualified to the continental championships in Kigali, Rwanda.

Otto was singled out for the exceptional individual and team performances. She was Uganda’s top scorer with 87 points, second to Egyptian Raneem Elgedawy.

Rugby:

KOBS Rugby club star player Pius Ogena won the award ahead of Heathens’ Aaron Oforywoth and Karim Ramathan.

Ogena staged a man of the match performance against the Buffaloes.

The 8th man shouldered off the opposition to carry the ball forward for the much needed tries.

Athletics:

Winner of the 2023 World Cross Country in Australia, Jacob Kiplimo excelled in athletics.

Kiplimo overcame Dorren Chesang and Joshua Cheptegei.

Badminton:

Teenage Badminton starlet Mohammed Fadilah Shamika took the Badminton award ahead of Husinah Kobugabe and Brian Kasirye.

Shamika picked the award accompanied by his father.

Real Stars Sports Agency executive director Isaac Mukasa graced the crowning moment accompanied by officials from Jude Colour Solutions and Fortebet.

Rest Mbatidde Namugema represented Fortebet.
