Uganda’s only professional golfer at the 2023 Magical Kenya Golf Open Ronald Rugumayo had a contrasting round one at the Muthaiga golf club in Nairobi city, Kenya.

The former Uganda Amateur open winner returned 5-over par 76 on a round where he also had an ace (hole-in-one).

The feat happened on the 201-yard-second hole to become the first player from Uganda to make a hole-in-one on the tour.

He completed the first round in 143rd position out of the 156 total field registered.

Rugumayo started with a dismissal opening 9 holes at the back end of the course.

At the back 9, he scored 42 (5 bogey scores and 1 double bogey).

He then crossed over to the front 9; commencing 9 with a par score on hole 1, an ace par-3 hole 2, pars on 3, 4 and 5, bogey on 6, the only birdie on hole 7 and pars on 8 and 9.

USA’s John Catlin and South African Dylan Mostert each returned 7-under 64 to share the joint lead on the opening round.

Kenya’s Muthai Kibugu was the highest ranked Kenyan professional with 3-under 68.

Legendary long hitting Dismas Indiza Anyonyi is tied 76th with level par, same as Greg Snow.

Another Kenyan Simon Ngige Mburu is 1-over 72 and shares the 96th position with a couple of other golfers.

The total kitty is €1,750,000 (at least UGX 6,857,284,721.00).
