Tadeo Rodell Gaita Kisembo won the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) captain’s prize golf tournament for the professionals.

Under rainy conditions, Gaita scored an impressive 5-under 67 gross score to topple the rest of the field at Uganda Golf Club course, Kitante in Kampala on Friday, 17th March 2023.

On the front 9, he tallied 33 before slipping a shot more 34 at the back nine.

He fetched a total of 7 birdies on holes 1,2,3, 5, 8, 13 and 17 with 9 pars (6,7,9,10,12, 14, 15, 16 and 18).

The grey patches were on holes 5 and 11 with bogie scores.

Upon registering his first victory of the season, Gaita attributed his success to commitment in approach of the game.

“I was very committed to my game with every shots I executed. I played the first four holes in the rain but this did not distract me. Also, I had good company (of Deo Akope and Silver Opio) who gave me good pace throughout the 18 holes’ action” Gaita stated.

He acknowledges that this victory gives him the momentum ahead of the rest of the events on the calendar.

The duo of Ronald Rugumayo and Deo Akope tied in second place with 4-under 68.

Other players who made the treasured cut to partake of the UGX. 5,000,000 kitty were David Kamulindwa (70), Abraham Ainamani (71), Grace Kasango (71) George Olayo (71), Lawrence Muhenda (72) and Herman Deco Mutebi (72).

The two lady professionals Irene Nakalembe and Flavia Namakula will share UGX 2,000,000.

Nakalembe scored 78 gross (40 and 38) whilst Namakula returned 80 (39 and 41).

A total of 32 professionals and one amateur Ibrahim Bagalana took part in the event.

Meanwhile, the main UGC Lady Captain prize tournament was held on Saturday with a big field of over 150 golfers.

The tournament got a boost of UGX 20,000,000 sponsorship package from Standard Chartered Bank Uganda.

The other partners include CASE Medicare, Crown Beverages Limited and Housing Finance.

The tournament is organized by Lady Captain of Uganda Golf Club, Grace Kabonero who will officially hand-over office to new management.

The prize giving ceremony will be held on Saturday evening with trophies and other rewards given to the outstanding performers in the different groups A, B and C with their rewards for guest golfers, side-bets as longest drive and nearest to the pin.
