Friday’s Afcon 2023 qualifier in Ismailia, Egypt will be the 62nd time Uganda and Tanzania meet in the men’s international football.

Uganda has won a record 32 of the previous 61 meetings, drawing 16 and losing just 13 in the process.

Of the 61 meetings, 10 have been in the Africa Nations Cup – all qualifiers, 8 in the Africa Nations Championship qualifiers, and 23 in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, 1 in the defunct Castle Four Nations Cup and the rest in International Friendlies.

In the 10 meetings in the competition, Uganda edges with 4 wins against Tanzania’s 3 and three stalemates.

The first meeting was in the qualifiers was in 1982 when Uganda beat Tanzania 3-2 in Kampala and the latest came in 2019 in Dar es Salaam when Taifa Stars humbled the Cranes 3-0 but both teams qualified for the edition in Egypt
