Before Friday night’s National Basketball League match-up between City Oilers and Power, it was clear as daylight that it was never going to be a contest and no contest it was.
Oilers registered one of their biggest victory in the league as they humiliated Power 106-49 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
The start to the game pointed to a blow as Power who shot poorly and played no defense the entire night were limited to 2 points in the opening quarter of the game.
It was all fun for Oilers who did and got everything they wanted on the floor. Luak Ruai netted five 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 23 points, player of the game Fayed Baale went 6-of-10 from deep and piled up 20 points while Enabu (14), Michael Ngut (13), Ivan Muhwezi (11) and Titus Lual (10) scored in double figures.
Samad Imran (11) and skipper Isaac Afidra (11) scored in double figures for Power.
In the women’s divisions, KCCA Leopards made their intentions clear that they will compete for silverware this season.
The Leopards edged last season’s finalists JKL Dolphins 63-58 thanks to some patient play and good execution on offense.
Ruth Atuheire led the way for the Leopards with 15 points and 8 rebounds as Peace Nakirijja, playing for the first time since 2019, came in handy with 13 points. Vet Martha Soigi scored 9 points to go with 11 rebounds while Martha Nakalembe contributed 10 points.
Hope Akello imposed her will in the lane but her struggles on the line were apparent. Akello scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the Dolphins while Flavia Oketcho and Brenda Ekone whose driving lanes were clogged finished with 10 points apiece.
