2022 may have been an illustrious year for many Ugandan sports personalities including Byron Rugomoka and his co-driver Hakim Mawanda.

The rallying crew has been voted by the local sports journalists body; Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) as motorsport’s best for the year 2022.

The journalists met on Monday during their monthly assembly at the Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala for the process.

Rugomoka and Mawanda unexpectedly joined the 2022 NRC title contention mid-season.

A series of top finishes in the subsequent rounds, topped with a rally win in the ultimate round last December saw the season-opening underdogs seal their season with a maiden NRC title.

Rugomoka claimed the NRC title with 364 points after participating in five of the seven NRC events. They edged Ponsiano Lwakataka and Jonas Kansiime who finished second and third respectively.

In motocross, Gift Sebuguzi retained the USPA Motocross Personality of the Year following his outstanding season performance coupled with a title in the Motocross of African Nations Championship last year.

Other sports personalities in different disciplines were also voted. All the winners of the season will be crowned at an annual dinner whose dates will be announced.
