The women’s domestic season will bowl off this holy weekend with two exciting matches far away from the bustle and hustle of Kampala.
The biggest clash of them all will be in the Eastern city of Soroti where two home sides will be meeting. Soroti Challengers now Soroti City will be taking on Olila High School, the latter always feels like it’s more the home side due to the fact that they all feature local players while the former has a mix of both.
Both sides are loaded with a lot of talent with Olila High led by Victoria Pearls All-Rounder Phiona Khulume while Soroti City is led by the reigning female cricketer of the year Janet Mbabazi.
Soroti City will also count on the experience of other Victoria Pearls players Kevin Awino, Irene Alumo, Sarah Akiteng and Evelyn Anyipo.
Olila High on the other hand is full of a lot of talented youth with U-19 girls captain Jimia Mohammad, Anyait Lorna, Marissa Ariokot, Acan Rachel, Nandera Immaculate and Asumin Akurut all with international experience having featured for the U-19 girls team at the qualifiers in Botswana last year.
It will be a proper clash between experience and youth and surely the two games will keep the fans entertained.
In the other clash, the newly promoted Jinja SSS will be taking on Pioneer Cricket Club. Pioneer got to keep their top-flight status after a restructuring of the league despite being on the wrong end of many results last season.
Jinja SSS has rejuvenated since the return of Coach Habib Mugalula and they will be a handful for Pioneer, especially on home ground.
Jinja SSS come into the clash as favourites but Pioneer has winners in their side and won’t travel to Jinja just to make up the numbers.
The women’s T20 League, just like the men, will have teams playing each other twice a day and make sure they go through the season quickly.
The ladies league will run every Saturday while the men play on Sundays.
