Guest of honour at the 2023 LMK Sports tournament Hon. Charles Matovu, the Busiro South Member of Parliament (MP) congratulated the outstanding performers, hinting to the value of sports in the development process of the country.

2023 LMK Cup Sports Tournament:

  • Final: Bunono 2-1 Nkumba Bukolwa
  • Third place: Nkumba Central 1 (3) – 1 (4) Kitubulu

Individual awards:

  • MVP: Solomon Wafula (Bunono)
  • Top scorer: Ali Abiti (Bunono) – 6 goals
  • Best Goalkeeper: Swalleh Maganda (Bulega)

Netball:

  • Final: Mpala 13-10 Kabale B

The 2023 LMK sports tournament in Katabi Town Council was successfully concluded at the Tanda playground on Easter Monday, 10th April.

Bunono and Mpala villages won the football and netball tournaments respectively during the four-month event that drew all the 23 villages within Katabi Town Council.

Bunono overcame Nkumba Bukolwa 2-1 before a mammoth crowd.

Solomon Wafula and Ali Abiti scored for Bunono. Nkumba Bukolwa’s consolation came from Benjamin “Mimi” Ssozi.

Abiti scored the opener in the first 20 minutes of the game as Bunono commanded the first half with a 1-0 lead.

Ssozi found the equalizer in the second half before Wafula’s winner.

In the third place, Nkumba Central lost 3-4 to Kitubulu in post-match penalties after normal time had ended 1-all.

For the netball final, Mpala won 13-10 over Kabale B.

Bunono team was rewarded with a glittering trophy, gold medals, set of jerseys and a huge cow.

The runners up got silver medals and a set of jerseys.

Individual awards:

Bunono’s utility playerSolomon Wafula was the most valuable player (MVP).

Another Bunono player Ali Abiti emerged as the top scorer with six goals to take home the golden boot.

14-year-old Swalleh Maganda of Bulega village was the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

I want to thank all the players, organizers, fans and other stakeholders for the work well done to have a successful 2023 LMK sports tournament. In a special way, I congragulate the different top performers and winners. Sports is of great significiance for it helps people to exercise and keep, source of employment and unifies the people. Therefore, there is need for talent search and development.
