Riazat Ali Shah scored 134 runs off 79 balls as the defending champions Aziz Damani put the title contenders Challengers to the sword in a one-sided encounter.

Fellow Cricket Cranes batter Simon Ssesazi (64) added a half-century to inflict a second defeat of the season on Challengers.

Challengers needed the result to keep in the title hunt but a loss virtually ends their chances of winning a maiden 50-Over league title.

Defending Champions Aziz Damani move into second and have an outside chance of winning the title if their sister team Aziz Damani Development slips up.

In the relegation dogfight, Wanderers got the upper hand with a marginal three-wicket victory over fellow strugglers Avengers.

In a low-scoring thriller at the Lakeside Oval, Avengers won the toss and elected to bat first but a fine fast bowling spell from Rwandan international Martin Akayezu (4/45) turned the game for Wanderers with Avengers bundled out for only 83 runs.

The chase was far from comfortable but Wanderers found some form and dragged the game from 30/7 to pick up a big result that will probably keep them in the top flight.

Avengers are running out of games to save their season and they will need some help to stay up as they remain second from bottom. The bottom two sides in the premiership drop down to the championship.

Meanwhile, in the second division, Tornado Bee dropped their 1st points of the season losing to Aziz Damani Ismaili by seven wickets in Budo.

The loss doesn’t hurt their chances of promotion because they are far ahead of the chasing pack but the win for Aziz Damani Ismaili improves their chances of promotion and are now in third place but tied on the same number of points as second-placed Tornado.

The top two sides in the championship gain promotion to the premiership.
