Ndejje University will celebrate the festive season with quite wider smiles after cementing its dominance in varsity games.
Ndejje University was crowned champions of the 19th Edition of the just-concluded Association of Uganda University Sport (AUUS) Games which were held in Mukono for over five days.
Ndejje scooped eight gold medals, two above hosts Uganda Christian University, and came second in ranking above Makerere University.
Ndejje’s strength has always been individual games such as athletics and swimming. While UCU, who came second flourished more in team sports such as basketball (boys and girls), volleyball (boys and girls), football (girls), and netball.
Sam Lukaire, UCU sports administrator revealed that they are happy as an institution with the team’s performance and they can always always build from that point.
“We have come a long way building and getting better as a University. Of course, we know that we can get better but you must appreciate that the gap towards the top is narrowing and that feels good,” he said.
“During this tournament, we have learned a lot. As an institution that longs for excellence, we shall use the challenges to learn and later seek long-term solutions to see us reach the top. Otherwise, I thank the athletes, coaches, and the crowd that backed us up.”
In the same breath, Dr Fred Kakembe, Ndejje’s deputy Vice Chancellor commended the athletes for the tremendous effort put in to see that they keep the flames bright.
“I thank all the athletes for the great work. They have done such a great job of balancing books and also excelling in sports. As the University, we have tried to support them with good facilities as well as good trainers,” he noted.
“We look forward to winning more and more because that is what we love to do. I commend everyone who has been part of this success and also add that at the end of the day, we are all winners.”
The AUUS Games will get back into action in 2025 and the host will be announced in the later days.
