The opening round of the Safari Tour leg at Karen Golf and Country Club teed off on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
Kenyan pro Mutahi Kibugu was phenomenal over the first 18 holes with 5-under 67 on the day.
Kibugu, a member of Karen Country Club, struck 6 birdies on holes 1,2, 12, 14, 15 and 18 with 11 pars as well as one bogey on par 5-hole 3.
He was one shot better than the legendary Dismas Indiza, Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo and another Kenyan Mike Kisia.
Indiza had 7 birdies (2,3, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 18); 8 pars and 3 bogies (5,6 and 7).
Ugandan professional Rugumayo had 5 birdie scores on holes 3, 10, 14, 15 and 18 with 12 pars and one bogie mark on the par 3 hole 5.

Like Rugumayo, Kisia also had 5 birdies (2,3, 7, 13, 14), 13 pars and one bogie on the opening par 4 hole 1.
Samuel Njoroge (69), Njoroge Kibugu (71), Zambian Gabriel Chibale (71), Isaiah Omwoyo (71), Ugandan Abrahm Ainamani (71), Edwin Mudanyi (72), CJ Wangai (72), Daniel Nduva (72), Dennis Saikwa (72), Mohit Mediratta (72) and the only female pro in contention Irene Nakalemba (72) completed the top 15 on day one.

Missed Day 1 cut:
James Karanja (86), Shileen Nanji (87), Ali Khimji (88), Joseph Karanja (82) and Peter Rimui (91) missed the day one cut.
The second round will swing off on Monday, 5th February 2024 as the golfers head to make 36 holes.
