The second competition on the Uganda Rugby 2023-24 calendar kicked off this Saturday morning with nine matches. Six were in the Nile Special Rugby (men) Championship and the rest in the Nile Special Rugby (women) Premier League.

In the men’s competition, all participating teams picked up at least a point; the winners for being ahead of their opponents at full-time and the losers for being within a seven-point margin of them.

Nile Special Rugby (Men) Championship Matchday One Results:

  • Mongers 24-19 Buffaloes
  • Rams 12-14 Impis
  • Hippos 18-15 Kobs
  • Eagles 17-13 Walukuba
  • Heathens 16-12 Pirates
  • Warriors 11-18 Rhinos

Heathens beat Pirates, 16-12, in the headline match of the weekend. Eagles beat Walukuba, 17-13, to win their first-ever top-flight match. Hippos marked a historic milestone when they beat Kobs, 18-15, at Damwaters.

Nile Special Rugby (Women) Premier League Matchday One Results:

  • Thunderbirds 25-00 Avengers
  • Ewes 10-41 Black Pearls
  • She Wolves 15-07 Nile Rapids

In the women’s competition, Thunderbirds were flawless against Avengers while Black Pearls beat Ewes. The shock of the round was delivered by She Wolves who upset Nile Rapids in Mbale. Panthers had a bye in this opening round.
