NEC FC continued with their brilliant start to the second round of the season by picking a second win in as many games on Friday.
The Soldier Boys came into today’s game on the back of a 3-2 victory over Busoga United FC and they complimented it with a 2-0 win against Mbarara City FC.
A goal in either half by Joseph Dhata and Rashid Okocha ensured NEC FC overcame the Ankole Lions at MTN-Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Mbarara City had the first realistic effort at goal in the 13th minute but Sadat Ssekyembe’s attempt hit the crossbar.
On the other hand, Bakali Magumba cleared off his line to deny the hosts from taking the lead at the hour mark.
Magumba would later be withdrawn and replaced by Edward Namaasa after picking an injury.
Dhata, who scored twice against Busoga United last week, opened the scores today with a superb finish inside the box at the stroke of halftime.
A telling cross from Gideon Odong was glanced into Dhata’s path and calmly guided the ball beyond Mbarara City goalkeeper Ronald Mutebi.
In the second half, Okocha finished from close range after being set up by Gaddafi Wahab who was named man of the match.
Geriga Atendele ignited the move on the right wing, found Wahab at the edge of the box and the midfielder was able to release Okocha who made no mistake to slot home.
Victory takes NEC FC to fifth place on 30 points same as Villa who drew against Kitara. Mbarara City FC on the other hand remain 11th on 20 points.
