Wakiso Giants FC earned a narrow victory over URA FC on Tuesday to brighten their chances of survival this season.
The Purple Sharks who have had an indifferent season, registered their first win of the second round, defeating URA FC 1-0 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
Kenneth Kimera got the lone goal of the game, coming midway through the second half.
A counter attack saw Marvin Nyanzi’s long pass behind the URA back line released Kimera who raced and dinked the ball beyond goalkeeper Roger Omedwa and went beyond Enock Walusimbi who attempted to save it on the line.
URA FC were left disappointed for failure to be clinical in front of goal given the fact that they got numerous scoring opportunities.
Goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya was equally good on the day, making several saves.
Substitute Ivan Ahimbisibwe nearly found the equalizer in the 78th minute but his strike ricocheted off the crossbar.
Deep in stoppage time, Wakiso Giants defender George Kaddu had a chance to double the advantage for the hosts when he went ran and poked the ball beyond onrushing goalkeeper Omedwa but he failed to find the target given the angle he was in.
Victory takes Wakiso Giants FC to 12th place on 20 points, five above the drop zone while URA FC remain seventh on the log with 27 points.
