  • City Oilers 72-63 KIU Titans

City Oilers found little resistance in front of a capacity crowd at Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Friday night as they handed KIU Titans their second defeat of the season.

Ivan Muhwezi who has taken on a major scoring role in Andrew Tendo’s setup got to business right away in the first quarter to set the tone for the record champions.

Tied at six points early in the opening period, the Oilers went on a 9-0 running with superb transition basketball and the Titans were stunned.

With their usual ball movement, the nine-time champions moved the ball around quickly and always found an open man closing out the quarter with a 14-point (25-11) lead.

The Oilers hit five 3-pointers in the second quarter including Muhwezi’s buzzer-beater to open up a 19-point (46-27) lead at halftime and the game was nothing but done.

Titans coach, Julius Lutwama chose to go with an all-Ugandan line-up that had Collin Kasujja, Brian Opiyo, Ahmed Kassa, Edgar Munaba, and Stanley Mugerwa for the majority of the third quarter to arrest the bleeding and it partly did as they took away the wide open 3-point opportunities from Oilers as they went man-to-man.

However, the deficit was so big that even if the Oilers did not shoot particularly well in the whole second half victory had been pretty much secured.

Muhwezi finished with a game-high 16 points and 9 rebounds, James Okello added 11 points and pulled down as many rebounds while Titus Lual netted 15 points.

Edgar Munaba who showed more effort than any other Titan had 15 points and a game-high 12 boards, Kasereka Tembo added 14 points to go with 6 assists while Juf Mpiya also reached double-figure scoring with 10 points.
