Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Express secured their slots to the round of 16 at the 50th Stanbic Uganda Cup.
KCCA edged a hard-fighting Jinja North 2-0 at the Kakindu stadium in Jinja city during the round of 32 contest.
A goal in either half from Muhammed Shaban and Saidi Mayanja won the day for Abdallah Mubiru’s coached side.
At the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium, Express rallied from a goal down over visiting Rwenzori Lions to send the game into post match penalties that they won 8-7.
David Opio Aliwrot gave Rwenzori Lions the lead through a well converted penalty. The Red Eagles equalized with five minutes to play via their own penalty well struck by Isaac Wagoina.
The tense shoot-out witnessed Express triumph 8-7.
The Stanbic Uganda Cup winner is assured of a slot to the CAF Confederation Cup.
Since inception of this knock out tournament in 1971, the championship has grown in popularity, magnitude and stature.
The tournament is played by clubs from all corners of the country, in varying divisions.
