The Football FA in Cote d’Ivoire has appointed Afcon 2023 winning coach Emerse Fae a permanent contract.

The former Elephant guided the nation to their third Afcon trophy after replaced French man Jean-Louis Gasset after the last group stage match during the tournament.

Fae got the team past then reigning champions Senegal in the round of 16, beat Mali in the quarter finals and eliminated DR Congo in the semi-finals and then came from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 in the final.

Ivorian Football Federation president Idriss Diallo confirmed the appointment on Monday, but did not disclose the length of Fae’s contract.

“Emerse was until now interim coach and has just been confirmed as full coach,” Diallo said.

The appointment coincided with Marseille naming Gasset as their new manager replacing Italian legend Gennaro Gattuso.

Afcon 2025 preliminary draw

Meanwhile, the preliminary draw for the Afcon 2025 finals to be hosted by Morocco was held on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.

Somalia, who are in the same group with Uganda in the World Cup qualifiers face Eswatini, South Sudan take on Sao Tome and Principe, Chad face Mauritius and Liberia will play Djibouti.

The winners of the four preliminary ties will join the 44 highest-ranked African sides in the main qualifying draw for the 2025 finals, which will be held in Morocco. The two-legged ties to be held between 20 and 26 March.
