Victoria Pearls Tour to India

1st T20: Uganda v Omtex ICWC

  • Uganda 104/4
  • Omtex ICWC 105/5

Omtex ICWC won by 5 wickets

Victoria Pearls were on the wrong end of the result in their first T20 match on their 12-day Training Tour to India.

The hosts Omtex ICWC won the toss and opted to bowl first. The new-look opening pair of Immaculate Nakisuyi (11) and Esther Iloku (27) hustled and put on an opening stand of 37 in 9.1 overs.

The visitors tried to rebuild with Stephanie Nampiina (15) and Rita Musamali (34) taking a lot of risks to make sure they put on a decent enough total that could give their bowlers a chance to win the game. Uganda finished on 104/4 in their 20 overs.

In the defence of their total, Evelyn Anyipo (2/8) struck twice early to push back the hosts but she didn’t get enough support from the rest of the bowlers. Lorna Anyait (2/15) and Consy Aweko (1/15) picked up a couple of wickets later but the damage had already been done with the hosts coasting to a five-wicket victory.

In the context of the game, without Irene Alumo, Evelyn Anyipo is a priority with the new ball and Uganda will seek someone who backs up her bowling by keeping things tight so that she can capitalise on her attacking bowling.

Esther Iloku and Immaculate Nakisuyi will need time to get used to batting together if they are going to ensure that Uganda gets quick starts.

The Victoria Pearls will play a double header tomorrow against the Lady Chevrons of Zimbabwe.
