·         Runners up: Melon Kyomugisha – 77

Peace Kabasweka scored 3-over 74 during the opening day of the 14th Entebbe Ladies Golf Open at the par-71 Entebbe club on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Kabasweka, winner of this tournament in 2022 established a 3 shot lead off second placed Melon Kyomugisha after the first 18 holes.

The two top golfers are in their own league as the third placed, Judith Komugisha is 7 shots shy from the leader.

In four position after 18 holes is Harriet Kitaka scored 11-over 82 and lies 8 shots from Kabasweka.

Bernadette Musanabera, playing off handicap 11 as well as Cathy Kwagala (handicap 14) are jointly fifth placed with 84 gross apiece.

Entebbe artesian golfer Resty Nalutaaya (handicap 13) scored 85, same as left hander Gloria Mbaguta.

Dianah Nambalirwa (86) and Janet Kabayonga (87) completed the respective top 10 positions.

Meanwhile, Elton Thembo, playing off scratch scored 1-under 70 to lead the rest of the pack on day one for the males.

Cosmas Ociti (handicap 6) is level par whilst Joseph Cwinya-ai, fresh from the inaugural Africa Amateur Championship scored 2-over 73.

Regan Akena, Amon Bwambale and Emmanuel Moko are all tied on 3-over 74.

Ellis Katwebaze, Michael Tumusiime, John Musimenta and Lawrence Walakira all scored +6 (77) to complete the top 10.

Telecommunications giants MTN Uganda are among the bandwagon of sponsors for this championship that winds down on Saturday, 2nd March 2024.
