The University Football League has produced many talented players who have graduated to the second division, top flight teams, the national team and also played professional football.

2023-2024 University Football League:

2nd Leg – Quarter finals:

·        Uganda Christian University (UCU) 1-0 Makerere University

*Aggregate: 2-2 (UCU qualifies on away goal’s rule)

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is the first institution to progress to the semi-finals of the 2023-2024 University Football League semi-finals.

The Mukono based university dumped Makerere University following a hard-fought 1-0 home win during the return leg of the quarter finals.

Winger Isaac Oforwoth scored the precious all-important goal in the second half of the game.

On aggregate the contest ended 2-goals apiece but UCU qualified on the famous away’s goal rule having lost the first leg in Makerere 1-2.

Other quarter-final return legs:

The three other teams to the semi-finals will be determined after the respective return legs for the quarter-finals.

Makerere University Business School (MUBS) host Bugema in Nakawa. The first leg away in Bugema ended all square, with no score.

St Lawrence University will entertain Kampala University in the return leg with the former having a 5-2 advantage from the first leg.

Uganda Martyr’s University, Nkozi will play-host to Nkumba University in Nkozi.

The first leg in Nkumba witnessed both teams play to a 1-all draw. Isma Lubega put Nkumba University ahead inside the first five minutes. UMU, Nkozi replied through Akbari Ssentongo’s glancing header at the on-start of the second stanza of the game.

This league has produced many talented players who have graduated to the second division, top flight teams, the national team and also played professional football.

A vivid case in point is Nkumba University’s Yasser Mugerwa who later featured for Victoria University Sports Club, Kampala Capital City Authority, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Express (currently), Uganda Cranes and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.

St Lawrence University’s Ibrahim “Owen” Kasule featured at Wakiso Giants and now in the United States of America (USA) with US Red Bulls. He is also on the Uganda Cranes long-list.
