Vipers SC hopes of retaining the League title suffered a huge dent on Thursday after playing out a one-all draw against Soltilo Bright Stars FC.
In the game played at St.Mary’s Stadium under the floodlights, the Venoms took the lead through Eric Kambale before Shafik Kakande scored the equalizer for the visitors.
The Kitende based side came into today’s game with three games in hand on current leaders Kitara and hoped to close the gap by winning against Bright Stars FC.
The result eventually was not as expected as a resilient Bright Stars FC team fought hard to pick a point.
Kambale fired the Venoms into the lead a minute after the half hour mark, finishing off a well laid cross from Yunus Sentamu.
Before that, the visitors had a chance to go ahead when Nelson Ssenkatuka went through on goal but failed to put the ball beyond goalkeeper Jack Komakech.
Kakande would eventually find the goal for the visitors in the 58th minutes to salvage a point.
Vipers remain third on the pile with 32 points, seven behind leaders Kitara and six behind second placed BUL FC.
Soltilo Bright Stars FC on the other hand stay put in eleventh position on 23 points.
Earlier in the day, URA FC overcame Maroons 2-0 in Lugazi thanks to goals from Norman Namanya and Enock Walusimbi.
The Jinja derby played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru between Busoga United FC and Gaddafi FC ended in a one-all draw.
Ronald Bithum scored for Gaddafi FC while Emmanuel Ajo got the equalizer for Busoga United FC.
