Uganda’s FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers opponents Algeria have named Vladimir Petkovic as their new head coach replacing Djamel Belmadi.
The former Switzerland manager will be tasked with guiding the Desert Warriors to the 2026 world cup but must overcome Guinea, Uganda, Somalia, Mozambique and Botswana who are in the same group.
Algeria are top of the standings with six points and return to action in September.
Petkovic is remembered for leading Switzerland to the quarter finals of the Euros after victory over France.
Song, Paseiro contracts not renewed
Nigeria and Cameroon start hunt for new coaches after deciding against keeping Jose Paseiro and Rigobert Song.
The Portuguese guided Nigeria to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations losing to hosts Ivory Coast but the NFF don’t rate him especially after a shaky start to the next edition of the World Cup as they faltered in the first two qualifying matches.
Paseiro made the communication confirming his departure on X; “It was a pride and honour to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. “We feel a sense of fulfilment.”
For Song, a decision was made my the FECAFOOT opting to part ways with their legend, a former captain.
“Today the Executive Committee of the Cameroonian Football Federation notified the members of the Indomitable Lions staff of the end of their contract to manage Cameroon’s senior men’s national team,” read a statement from Fecafoot.
“In the next few days, the details of the recruitment process for a new Indomitable Lions coaching staff will be announced.”
