The African Games 2023 will officially get underway on Friday, 8th March 2024 but action is already taking places across the various disciplines.

With Kawowo Sports Team touching base in Ghana’s capital Accra, a 360-coverage of the games will be provided.

Special attention will be given to Team Uganda, highlighting when Ugandan athletes and teams get into action.

Today, Thursday 7th March 2024, the follwing Ugandan teams and players will be in action.

Football (Men)

Uganda will mark its return to the African Games (Football-Men) today for the first time since 2011.

This year, the tournament comes with changes in regulations with U20 teams considered unlike the previous tournaments that allowed U23 Teams.

Uganda takes on Nigeria today at Accra Sports Stadium in Group B. The other teams in the same group Senegal and South Sudan will also face off earlier in the day.

Badminton (Women) – Singles

Round of 64

Husna Kobugabe, Justine Tracy Naluwooza and Gladys Mbabazi all got byes at the round of 64.

However, they will be in action for Round of 32 games that will be played at the MUH Multipurpose Hall.

Bandminton (Men) – Singles

In the Men’s round of 64 singles on Thursday, Expendito Emuddu will face Egypt’s Ahmed Aly Abderlmaguid.

Muzafaru Lubega will also be up against another Egyptian in Ahmed Salaheldin.

Amos Mayanja will face Joseph Emmanuel from Nigeria while Augustus Owinyi taking on Abiel Kiros Negash from Eritrea.

The round of 32 games will also be played today.

Cricket (Women) – 4:45PM (EAT)

Uganda will take on rivals Kenya in a Group B game at the Achimota Cricket Oval.

The Victoria Pearls enter the African Games as one of the favourites for the Gold Medal as Cricket makes a maiden appearance at the games.

Uganda is not far from the favourites South Africa and Zimbabwe and if their form counts for anything, they should at least win the bronze.

The women’s tournament will run from March 5-13.
