Morley Byekwso Ochama addresses the media during the post match press conference in Accra, Ghana

Uganda U20 Men’s National Football Team Head Coach Morley Byekwaso says his troops should not carried away by the victory they earned over Nigeria in their opening game at the African Games 2023.

The Uganda Hippos stunned their Nigerian counterparts, winning 2-1 in the game played at Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Arafat Usama Kizza and Ivan Irinimbabazi scored for Uganda while Sadiq Muhammad Isiyaka got the consolation for Nigeria.

Byekwaso believes the good start should not get them complacent but rather motivate them.

“It is important for us to start on a good note but this is just the beginning and we should not get carried away. Defeating Nigeria definitely motivates us and gives us confidence ahead of our next games,” he stated.

Uganda will face Senegal in the next game on Monday, 11th March 2023 and Byekwaso states, his charges should even be better than they were against Nigeria.

“Senegal has been performing well in recent years across all age groups and this therefore calls for better performance than even what we had against Nigeria.” He said.

The Uganda Hippos are in group B alongside Nigeria, Senegal and South Sudan.
