Following reports about the situation surrounding Livingstone Mbabazi at Vipers SC, the club says the gaffer has been absent from work because he has a bout of Malaria.
Reports had circulated wildly that Mbabazi could be on his way out of the club but Vipers has strongly refuted the reports, claiming it’s just street talk.
The club’s assistant communications manager, Kenneth Muwanga, confirmed that the gaffer has not attended recent training sessions due to illness.
“Mbabazi is still Vipers head coach. He is still in charge of the club until further notice,” Muwanga stated.
“In fact, he even watched our previous game (against Iganga Young) but did not stand on the touchline because he was ill,” he added.
When asked when he is expected back to work, Muwanga said; “I can’t tell when he will return because he is still sick. However, I am sure the moment he is okay, things will return to normal.”
“Disregard all reports [about his departure] because it’s just street talk and I do not know anything about it.”
However, a source close to the club revealed to Kawowo Sports that the club management held a meeting yesterday and the coach’s situation was the main topic.
“Of course it’s not well between the coach (Mbabazi) and the club management. They are not happy with recent results and they held a meeting when Dr Mulindwa (Lawrence) returned,” the source told Kawowo Sports.
“I am not sure whether the decision of letting him go has been reached yet but if it’s to happen, then it’s not far because he has not impressed like expected,” he added.
Vipers lie third on the log with 32 points gathered from 32 games. Their next encounter will be against Wakiso Giants on Sunday, March 10.
