For the second successive season, SC Villa completed a double over rivals Express with a rude welcome for Baker Mbowa as they won 1-0 against the Red Eagles at Wankulukuku.
Charles Lwanga scored the winner in the first half which the depleted Jogoos held on for all points.
The goal arrived in the 21st minute when Lwanga hit a first-time half volley after a flick by Hakim Kiwanuka inside the area.
Villa were without over six players but that didn’t really show although the Red Eagles were the dominant side especially in attack only to be thwarted several times by Man of the match Kenneth Ssemakula.
The result takes Villa into 4th place with 33 points in 18 games while Express stay 8th with 29 points having played two more games.
At Bombo, UPDF returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Busoga United in a relegation six pointer.
Brian Kalumba and Ezekiel Katende scored in either half to help the army side move to 13 points despite staying second from bottom – three points behind Busoga United who lie 14th on the 16-team log.
Elsewhere, Cromwell Rwothomio netted the winning goal for NEC as they saw off Gaddafi 1-0 at Gaddafi Arena.
NEC climbed to 3rd place with 34 points while Gaddafi remain in a relegation dogfight with 18 points in 13th position.
