- World Rugby HSBC 7s Challenger 2024 Montevideo – 5th Place Playoff
- Result: Uganda 07-10 Germany
Barring a sporting miracle of heavenly and ancestral proportions, Uganda Men have, yet again, fallen short of their target of qualifying for the iconic World Rugby SVNS Series this year.
They lost the fifth-place playoff, by 10-07 points, to eternal rivals Germany during the second round of the 7s Challenger 2024 in Montevideo, Uruguay. This crashed nearly all their mathematical chances of staying in contention for an overall top four finish at the end of the series in May.
Uganda finished ninth and collected four points in the first round in Dubai. They needed nothing short of the Cup Final – and perhaps Semifinal – to keep their hopes alive and their chances within their control. Ten points collected from finishing sixth in the second round in Montevideo is far from enough with one round in Munich left to play. Uganda will cross their fingers for misfortune to befall the other seven teams who are ahead of them in the overall standings for them to get even close.

That is the unfortunate and painful reality the squad find themselves in after losing the fifth-place playoff; having revealing their goal for Cup Final victory on the day of the squad announcement.
Fortunately, or rather unfortunately, as a consolation, Uganda will immediately switch focus to the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana which will be played from March 18-21 in Accra, Ghana.
