Overview:
Uganda has so far won gold in badminton (doubles women), silver (weightlifting and badminton) as well as bronze (swimming, weightlifting and badminton).
Uganda’s weightlifter Davis Niyoyita secured two medals for Uganda at the on-going 13th African Games in Accra city, Ghana.
Niyoyita claimed silver medals and a bronze in the 55 kg category during the first day of the weightlifting competition at the University of Ghana.

“I am more than happy. This has been my dream to win any medal at the African Games. Thanks to hard work and good preparations. I thank my federation, coaches and entire team here in Ghana and back at home” an excited Niyoyita remarked.
He had a total lift of 210kg to take silver in the clean and jerk with an impressive performance to win a bronze medal in the snatch event, lifting 90kg.
This is Niyoyita’s second appearance at the African Games, with his earlier debut in Rabat, Morocco, where he finished 4th overall.

By and large, Niyoyita’s silver is the first for Uganda in the sport since the African games’ inception.
Uganda has three other weightlifters in Lydia Nakidde, Aisha Namataka and Steven Ojede under head coach Khassimu Nsubuga.
At the on-going 13th African games, Uganda has so far won gold in badminton (doubles women), silver (weightlifting and badminton) as well as bronze (swimming, weightlifting and badminton).
The swimming bronze was won by Anna Gloria Muzito in the 100m freestyle (ladies).
