Uganda U20 Women’s National Football Team, the Queen Cranes will return to action today against Ethiopia at the ongoing African Games in Ghana seeking to keep their hopes of advancing beyond the group stages alive.
A late equalizer conceded against Tanzania in the opening game on Saturday denied them maximum points and they will be looking forward to today’s game against Ethiopia to better their performance.
Coach Sheryl Botes is optimistic her troops are in the right shape and mentality to face Ethiopia and confident they will get victory.
“The players are ready for the second game at this tournament. I believe we have tried to work and address areas we feel were lacking against Tanzania and hoping for a good result against Ethiopia,” she stated.
Botes however is aware of the threat that Ethiopia pose and calls for perfection from her charges if they are to secure victory today at the Cape Coast Stadium.
“Ethiopia is a good team that cannot be undermined. We know how they play and use the ball well. So we must be at our best to get a good result over them.” She added.
Phionah Nabulime who has been deployed as a makeshift central defender at the tournament stated that the coaches have prepared them well enough to face a stern test in Ethiopia.
“We are ready and confident ahead of our game against Ethiopia. The coaches have prepared us well and we have been able to work on the mistakes we made against Tanzania. Our target is to win today and brighten our chances of progressing to the next stage.” She said.
Margret Kunihira scored for Uganda against Tanzania on Saturday but a late equalizer from Aisha Juma Mnuka for Tanzania denied the Queen Cranes maximum points.
Hosts Ghana will take on Tanzania in the other group A match to be played today at Cape Coast Stadium.
