In the aftermath of Uganda Hippos’ slim 1-0 win over Senegal at the Accra Sports Stadium, head coach Morley Byekwaso Ochama saluted the effort of fans.

The fans chorused aloud a number of supportive songs as they cheered on team Uganda during their contest against Ghana.

Addressing the media during the official post-match press conference, Byekwaso lauded the fans.

“They (fans) are excellent” the gaffer who is also assistant coach at Sports Club Villa in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League stated.

“The fans deserve a big applause for their special effort to cheer up our team through the game as they motivated us and I would take this opportunity to thank them in a special way” Byekwaso added.

The rest of the Uganda sports delegation that were not in action as boxers and female cricketers cheered on the Uganda Hippos who won 1-0 courtesy of Allan Oyirwoth’s goal.

Uganda suffered an early injury to right back Harunah Lukwago whose place was taken up by Apollo Kaggogwe.

Byekwaso acknowledged that the forced change affected his game plan an strategy.

“To be since, the injury to Harunah Lukwago came as a big surprise and disorganized us. Apollo (Kaggogwe) managed to replace him well but he is not as offensive as him (Lukwago). So, we had to utilize one wing and this in a way got us from our original plan” Byekwaso explained.

He saluted the team-work element of the players and discipline throughout the game.

This was Uganda’s second victory at the 13th African Games, after a 2-1 win over Nigeria last Friday.

Uganda will now face South Sudan on Friday at the University of Ghana stadium. At the same time, Nigeria shall lock-horns against Senegal at Accra Sports Stadium.

Both Nigeria and Senegal has three points apiece and it will be a winner-takes it all affair.
