NEC beat Maroons 2-1 at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo to climb to third place on the Uganda Premier League table.

Joseph Dhata and Allan Mugalu scored for Hussein Mbalangu’s men before Isaac Mpagi grabbed a consolation for the visitors.

Dhata converted from the spot after a foul on Cromwell Rwothomio in the 29th minute and Mugalu doubled the lead in the 39th minute.

Maroons improved after the break but could only get one back through Mpagi in the last minute of regulation time.

The win takes NEC to 37 points, three behind leaders Kitara who have played one game less than the Bugolobi based side who have played 19 games.

Their next game is a trip to Wakiso Giants after the international break on March 29 a day after Maroons host struggling Express in Luzira.

At Kakyeeka, Mbarara City humiliated Gaddafi 5-0 to continue escaping from the relegation dogfight.

Pius Wangi scored a brace adding on goals from Sadat Nsubuga, Benson Muhindo and Joseph Akwandanaho.

The Ankole Lions are now on 27 points in 9th position ahead of their trip to SC Villa on March 29.

Gaddafi remains 13th on the log with 18 points after 20 games and will visit Bright Stars in their next league outing.

Elsewhere, Wakiso Giants beat Express 3-2 at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku to pile more misery on the Red Eagles who remain 8th with 29 points.
