Uganda Women’s handball team suffered defeat in their opening match at the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana.
A dominant and physical Cameroonian side, swept aside Uganda, winning 38-27 at the Borteyman Sports Complex on Thursday.

A sloppy start coupled with poor handling in some moments cost Uganda on the day despite putting up a resilient performance.
Cameroon started the better side and set up a six-goal cushion inside the opening ten minutes. They led 7-1 at the 10th-minute mark.

The lead was eventually maintained up to the end of the first half with Cameroon going into the break at 17-12.
Stephane Adibone was the biggest threat for Uganda, scoring six goals on the day, five of which came in the first half.
After recess, Uganda returned rejuvenated and at one time closed the gap to three goals only for jittery hands to set in and give away the game.

Diana Tiperu led Uganda’s charge on the day, scoring six goals. Jesca Nakamanya and Diana Nakamya had five goals apiece.
Shakirah Bako Agarile contributed three goals on the day.
Lillian Achola, Patience Damulira and Priscillah Aber had two goals each while Barbra Nantume and Patricia Arago got onto the score sheet as well.

Uganda will return to action on Saturday with a game against Democratic Republic of Congo before facing Mali two days later.
