A late Mustafa Kizza penalty goal earned KCCA their first ever win over Vipers at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende on Friday.
The victory sees KCCA climb to 8th position on the table but punch holes in the Venoms title defence as their second-round blues continue.
It is also KCCA’s first away win over Vipers in more than a decade but how did the players rate on the day? Here is how Ismael Kiyonga rate each.
Vipers player ratings
Jack Komakech 6/10: Made a telling save to deny Mugume in the second half but had little to do with a well taken Kizza penalty.
Ashraf Mandela 5/10: Had a tough evening against the lively Katenga
Rashid Matovu 5/10: Defended well against Gabriel but got a different opponent in Lwasa after the break.
Hilary Mukundane 6/10: Solid at the back but misplaced too many balls with his long ball approach.
Paul Mbowa 6/10: One of Vipers’ better players with the ball at his feet in defence.
Siraje Sentamu 4/10: A very quiet outing. Lost the ball in the move that resulted in him handling the ball in the area for the decisive penalty. Subdued in midfield.
Karim Watambala 5/10: A busy outing in the midfield of the park and had a few shots blocked.
Allan Okello 7/10: Caused havoc with the ball at his feet and denied a first half wonder goal by a wonder save from Emojong.
Yunus Sentamu 3/10: Basically, did nothing of note before coming off injured.
Fazil Tumwine 5/10: Missed a good opportunity with a free header but his pressing was okay.
Milton Karisa 5/10: His decision making let him down twice when he opted to pass rather than shoot at goal.
Substitutes
Salem Ekbad (21’ On for Sentamu) 5/10: Daring and caused havoc but withdrawn despite coming on a sub.
Moses Waiswa (63’ On for Watambala) 2/10: Fairly non-existent after coming on. A passenger on the train.
Kambale (63’ On for Tumwine) 4/10: Provided presence in the area but not much improvement on Tumwine.
Bright Anukani (79’ On for Okello) 6/10: Added creativity but missed a good opportunity when teed up by Karisa late on.
Martin Kizza (79’ On for Ekbad) 3/10: Barely did anything of note.
Livingstone Mbabazi 5/10: Tactically subdued by his counterpart and his time and choice of substitutions was poor.
KCCA player ratings
Anthony Emojong 6/10: Read the game well in situations when Vipers played ball over his defence and did well to deny Okello in the first half
Joseph Ogwang 6/10: His final ball let him down when he joined in attack but defensively solid.
Herbert Achai 7/10: Impressive defensively and a menace going forward down the left flank.

Peter Magambo 7/10: As colossus as a rock and good driving the ball forward from defence.
Joel Sserunjogi 9/10: KCCA’s best midfielder on the day. Completed over 90% of his passes, made several interceptions, won numerous duels and generally just did a lot right on the day. Undisputed Man of the Match.
Da Silva Gui 7/10: A few decent touches and shockingly substituted at halftime.
Ashraf Mugume 8/10: An industrious performance from the midfielder who thrived well in the 10 role and only denied by Komakech decent save.
Joao Gabriel 5/10: He wasn’t effective and was replaced at halftime as a result.
Ettiene Katenga 7/10: Vipers defenders couldn’t live up with his pace.
Abu Mayanja 6/10: The youngster held his own as a 9 and kept the Vipers CB pairing on tenterhooks.

Abdallah Mubiru 8/10: Good starting eleven and the choice and timing of his substitutions proved a masterstroke.
