Two Ugandan boxers Muzamiru Semuddu and Kasim Murungi progressed to the semi-finals of the 13th African Games in Ghana.
Featuring in the 71 kg category, Semuddu ejected Ghana’s Henry Malm at the fully packed Bukom Boxing Arena.
Semuddu had earlier knocked out Holonue Akoussan from Togo at the round of 16.
Now, Semuddu is assured of a medal regardless of the result in the semi-finals.

The other fighter who was engaged on Monday night is Kasim Murungi, who eliminated another Ghanaian Omar Abdul in the quarter final during the 57 kg cluster.
The arena was silenced when referee prematurely halted the bout to avoid further punishment to Omar.
Murungi had ejected Liberia’s Timothy Williams at the round of 16.
The two Ugandans join the other assured medalist Innocent Tumusiime who humbled Lesotho’s Retselisitsoe Kolobe in the elite 46 kg – 48 kg minimum weight catergory at the quarter final stage.
Uganda returns to action on Tuesday evening when Erina Namutebi faces Nigeria’s Cynthia Ogunsemilore in the quarter final of the women’s 60 kg category.
On the same day, Isaac Owen Kibira will face Tunisian opponent Zakaria Romdhani in the men’s 67 kg weight category.
Kibira eliminated Equatorial Guinea’s Billigraham Nze at the round of 16 whilst Zakaria was the better fighter against Mozamibque’s Come Lazaro Jossef.
By Monday, 18th March 2024, Uganda had won a total of 11 medals.
Of these are two golds, three silvers and bronzes apiece as well as boxing’s three yet to be identified medals.
