The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) and betPawa have entered a partnership that will see the betting company sponsor the national senior national teams – Gazelles and Silverbacks – to the tune of 2.6 billion shillings over three years.

“We have invested a lot of money in Ugandan Sports and we are here because there is talent in Uganda. We want to dream together with the youths and walk the journey with us,” Ntudi Mouyelo, the Chief Commercial Officer of betPawa, said.

It was revealed at a press conference held at Fairway Hotel that the money will cover multiple team expenses which include training, travel, accommodation at tournaments, medical insurance, and supplements.

Players will receive 150,000 shillings for every victory through the Locker Room Bonus initiative as is with the betPawa Futsal League.

“We are doing our best gradually to elevate Uganda’s sport altogether and our record is evident in such a short period of time.

“We believe that to elevate the game of basketball, the players are at the centre and are as important as proper structures hence our 360-degree approach,” Spencer Okach, the Chief Brand Officer betPawa, said.

It’s the first-ever sponsorship for the national basketball teams and comes at a time when the teams are soaring on the continent.

The Gazelles finished seventh at the last edition of the Women’s AfroBasket last year in Kigali, Rwanda while the Silverbacks finished in sixth place in the last edition of AfroBasket in the same city in 2021.
