Joyce Josephine Lalam has etched her name in the history books after becoming the first female athlete to win a medal for Uganda in the field category at African Games (previously All Africa Games).
Whereas, Uganda has been dominant in track and field events, the nation had not won any field medal since inception of the Games in 1965.
Lalam threw a distance of 57.01 which is a new national record. At the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocoo, she finished fourth.
She came behind two South Africans Van Schalkwyk Jana who took silver and Jo-ane Van Dyk who clinched the gold medal.
Van Dyk also set a new African Games record, throwing a distance of 60.80 to break the old record of fellow South African Justine Robbeson set in 2007.
