Overview:

The double gold in Rugby 7's (men and women) on Thursday supplemented Badminton doubles and cycling's earlier gold medals. Silver has come from Badminton (1), weight-lifting (2) and athletics (2). The 8 bronze medals are from Swimming (1), Badminton (1), weight-lifting (1), Athletics (1), Boxing (3) and lately women's football (1).

The 13th African Games will officially come to an end on Saturday, 23rd March 2024.

Uganda is among the 54 countries that took part in these games previously tagged as “All African Games”; in 29 sports disciplines across 9 venues in Ghana.

The East African country, dubbed as the “Pearl of Africa” has also had its share of the medals at the games where Egypt and South Africa have had a lion’s share.

By Thursday evening, Uganda had fetched as many as 17 medals. Of these are 4 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze.

Silver has come from Badminton (1), weight-lifting (2) and athletics (2). The 8 bronze medals are from Swimming (1), Badminton (1), weight-lifting (1), Athletics (1), Boxing (3) and lately women’s football (1).

The Queen Cranes overcame Senegal U-20 6-5 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended goal-less at the Cape Coast stadium.

Hosts Ghana won the final 2-1 (after extra-time) over rivals Nigeria to take gold.

More medals will be added to the tally with football men expected to bag either gold or silver after their final match against hosts Ghana on Friday night.

There remains action in athletics and cricket (men). The cricket national team will fight for bronze against rivals Kenya on Saturday morning.
