Uganda's 3X3 Basketball male Basketball team at the 13th African Games composed of Peter Obleng, Joel Kayiira, Marvin Okurut and Duncan Lubwama
Uganda’s medal tally at the 13th African Games swell to 20 medals by the closure of the games on Saturday, 23rd March 2024.
The national Basketball 3X3 team earned bronze at the championship that brings together all the 54 countries.
Uganda’s male team overcame Botswana 17-11 during the third place play off played at the University of Ghana courts.
The team was composed of Peter Obleng, Joel Kayiira, Marvin Okurut and Duncan Lubwama.
Uganda’s Obleng, playing with an injured ankle for the final spell of the championship emerged as the top scorer.
Algeria won gold in this category as Ghana settled for silver.


The Basketball 3X3 bronze medal was the 10th bronze won by Uganda at this games.
Besides basketball, the other bronze medals for Uganda came from swimming, badminton, weightlifting, cricket, football (women U-20), women Javelin, boxing (3).
Uganda collected four gold medals from weightlifting, rugby 7’s (men and women) and cycling.
The six silvers are in football (men), weightlifting (2), badminton and athletics (2).
Overall, Uganda earned 20 medals; 4 gold, 6 silvers and 10 bronze.
The official closing ceremony was held at the University of Ghana stadium before a capacity crowd with the president of Ghana H.E Nana Addo the chief guest.
Egypt will host the next African Games in 2027.
