Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe will play for his native national DR Congo after being convinced by ex-Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre.

Currently at Ipswich Town in the English Football League, Tuanzebe has previously represented England at the U19, U20 and U21 national teams but is yet to make a Three Lions debut.

The defender grew up at Manchester United where he played in different competitions including the UEFA Champions League with his best performance coming against PSG under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He was born in Bunia, DR Congo and relocated to England with his family aged only four years.

The 26-year-old is expected to get his competitive debut for the Leopards in June in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

They are third in Group B, with three points just behind Senegal and Sudan which have four points each with two matches played.

DR Congo finished 4th at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held earlier this year.
