- Uganda 2-2 Ghana
Muhammad Shaban scored a late equaliser as Uganda twice recovered to draw 2-2 with Ghana in the second friendly of the window in Morocco on Tuesday.
The KCCA forward pounced on a loose ball after a goal melee in the area to force the ball past the goal line despite protests from the Black Stars that their custodian had been fouled in the process.
Steven Mukwala had earlier cancelled out a 7th minute from Jerome Opoku in the 22nd minute when he struck a penalty after Rogers Mato was fouled in the area.
Jordan Ayew had restored the lead from the spot as well before the break before Shaban’s late scrambled goal.
“I am happy with the result because we played one of the strongest teams of Africa so I think the players made a good performance,” Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put stated a post-match press conference.
“But we may not be blind, for a tournament like world cup qualifiers we conceded two goals again today so we have to learn so that it doesn’t happen in June because if you concede goals, its very difficult to come back,” he added.
Following a 4-0 defeat to Comoros in the first test game, the Belgian saw progress and he will hope for better when the Cranes resume World Cup qualifiers in June.
“I think there is progress but also still a lot of work to do. I hope to recover injured players for the game in June because we had to change a lot so it’s not that easy.”
It was Put’s 4th game in charge of Uganda with a win, two defeats and now a draw as his record.
