Uganda U-17 National team (Teen Cranes) will face Zambia during the FIFA U-17 Women's world cup qualifiers for two outings.
It is always joy unlimited for a parent to witness the gradual growth, development and elevation of his son or daughter.
From the earliest hours during the first crucial cry through to the days and weeks as a toddler, pre-teens, teens, puberty to the adulthood, a parent yearns to witness growth of their off-springs.
In the sporting sphere, it is a dream for every sports personality to play for the national team and earn professionally from his or sweat.
The dream for eight Amus College School students to represent their country of birth (Uganda) will soon be realized.
These eight junior players are part and parcel of the wider (provisional) 32 man squad by coach Sheryl Botes ahead of the double header FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Zambia in May 2024.
Seven of these players feature for Amus College School team and Byafaayo Queens women football club in the FUFA second tier national league.
Goalkeeper Dorcus Namboozo as well as outfield players Sharlom Nambuya, Tamisi Shafiga, Asia Kakai, Mariam Namataka, Doreen “Morata” Alijat and Joyce Kaniza are at Byafaayo Queens whilst Angela Adeke is at Royal Queens women football club.
Ironically, these 8 players are currently part of the national Fresh Dairy USSSA games in Luweero and will have to depart the tournament before the crucial semi-final stage (if their team makes it past the round of 16 and quarter final stage).
To director Hon. Patrick Opolot Isiagi, he envisages this opportunity as a blessing to the players as they continue to be nurtured in their careers.
“Looking at the development side of the players, it is a blessing to be summoned on the national team. This is very good news to them (the players). No one will block their life line chances” Hon. Isiagi disclosed to Kawowo Sports.
Over the weekend, Botes was physically in Luweero as she watched the games at Ndejje SS, Ndejje University, Nandere playground and St Janan SS playground.
She crossed from ground to ground to watch for herself the skills showcase by the youngsters from across the country.

The first leg comes away from home at the Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka city on 12th May 2024 before the return leg after five days on 17th May 2024 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
