Despite having had a calamitous opening day at the 2024 World Rugby 7s Challenger 2024 finale in Krakow, Poland, Uganda Women just about qualified for the Cup Quarterfinals.

However, their troubles were far from over as they faced series leaders, China. China systematically dispatched Uganda by 38-14 points. Peace Lekuru and Grace Auma scored Uganda’s two consolation tries. Juliet Nandawula kicked the conversions.

Uganda then faced Paraguay in the 7th-place playoff match. They avenged the pool phase defeat with an emphatic 35-05 result. The tries were scored by Lekuru, Auma, Lydia Namabiro, Unity Namulala, and Nandawula. Lekuru and Nandawula (4) converted five of the tries.

Uganda Women’s Results on Day Two:

  • Cup Quarterfinal: China 38-14 Uganda
  • 5th-place Playoff: Paraguay 05-35 Uganda

Uganda finished the tournament in fifth place, the first time they had failed to make it into the semifinals.

Unfortunately, this resulted in Uganda’s drop from fourth to sixth in the overall standings; marking the end of their series debut.
