The 2024 Absa captain's bell tournament drew a massive over 230 golfers with the new Uganda Golf Club captain Charles Rukundo officially taking charge from Emmanuel Wamala.

Joseph Cwinya-ai won the gross category for the 2024 Captain’s Bell golf tournament at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kampala.

The Fort Portal-bred golfer carded a total gross of 219 in 54 holes action played over 3 rounds.

Cwinya-ai, the national team captain opened with a 3-over 75 mark during day one.

He bettered with a 2-under-70 score on the subsequent day and crowned with a 2-over 74 on the final round.

“It was good performance to win” Cwinya-ai who scored 5 birdies and 2 Eagles in 54 holes spoke. “This victory boosts my morale coming to the 2024 Zambia Open,” he added.

Cwinya-ai was a shot better than Ibrahim Bagalana (220). Two golfers Andrew Ssekibejja and Joseph Kasozi tied in joint third place with 224 gross score apiece.

Titus Okwong (225), Michael Tumusiime (225), Lawrence Walakira (227), Elton Thembo (229), John Musimenta (229) and Joseph Reagan Akena (229) completed the top ten positions.

Other top performers:

Peace Kabasweka won the ladies’ gross cluster with 224 as Ronald Rugumayo (209) was outstanding professional.

Perez Muhwezi and Rose Azuba were the men and ladies’ respective overall winners.

Muhwezi scored 41 points whilst Azuba scored 37 points (countback).

The tournament drew a massive over 230 golfers with the new Uganda Golf Club captain Charles Rukundo officially taking charge from Emmanuel Wamala.

Absa Bank financied this tournament with Ugx. 152,000,000.

State minister of sports Hon. Peter Ogwang was chief guest during the crowning ceremony.
